Haiyi Bi is a data journalism student and multimedia storyteller at Columbia University, whose reporting focuses on arts and culture, with an interest in public records and data-driven investigations. She previously earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism at Boston University, where she reported on culture and immigration in Boston. She reported and wrote an Associated Press investigation on privately sponsored congressional travel and the ethics blind spots that allow lawmakers’ families to join trips paid for by outside groups. That work won the 2024 Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) Awards in Student – Large. She enjoys writing, data visualization, video production and storytelling. She is from Beijing, China and has lived in Toronto and Boston. She speaks Mandarin, English and French.
